Satio – Firmware Update Rumour

Submitted by Paul Watson on March 7, 2010 – 7:06 pm20 Comments

Old Firmware ScreenThere is a lot of speculation that the Sony Ericcson Satio is to get Firmware Update.

I have tried to update today 7th March 2010, but it says that I have the latest Firmware, my phone is unbranded.

If there is an update it must be region specific at the moment. It may well take longer to filter through to Mobile Operators, who will most probably edit the firmware to their benefit.

Our friends over at Symbian Freak have said that it may well get the following updates:-

Support for WVGA video recording

Upload of pictures to Facebook. It will be possible to upload pictures directly from the picture menu you have on the home screen or from the Media UI.

Youtube video uploading It will be possible to upload videos to Youtube directly from the Media UI

Conversational messaging Conversations will be nicely integrated in the messaging menu in order to easily find and inspire to more conversations with your friends.

DLNA support.  The new software will support DLNA media server for easy transfer of audio and still pictures. (Note that video is not supported)

UI improvements  On top of above, several minor UI improvements have been done in order to optimize the user experience.

The Facebook application that is now available on PlayNow for free download will be included in the sw.

In a few days time it should well be available for the majority of Satio users.

Got the new firmware today (10th March 2010) and it is awesome. Very fast, menus load faster, the media centre is a lot faster, the whole phone is faster. The only downside is that HelloOX2 cannot hack it yet so I have lost my Ovi maps. Basically highly recommended if you aren’t running anything that requires a hack. If you need hacked apps, then you will have to wait with baited breath….. Oh yes, also includes Facebook App, and new higher resolution Video recording – WVGA indeed.

    Hi Alan,

Sorry to hear that you losted OVI Maps, but if you updated using SEUS you have two choices – 1 to keep all user settings or 2 a fresh install which you will lose everything. I have just updated using number 1 and I am installing OVI MAps as I type.

    hi Sir Alan

g’day! where can i download the new firmware..

and btw, why can’t use the ebuddy, snaptu and fb (got from playnow) in my satio… i thought it only requires a wi-fi service, but then when i always open it for a try, there comes a statement saying “requires network service bla bla” then there are options like allow one, never allow, always allow? why does it happen?

    thanks so much…

    much appreciated…

Good luck Paul, let me know how it works out for you….. In the meantime I am waiting for HelloOX2 to be updated…. fingers crossed.

i just downloaded the update 2 days ago and it worked fine. i’m glad that i’m able to upload photos on facebook but it was in filename form. it would work better if it showed thumbnails of photos. and still it didn’t have notifications. that sucked. now, i’m planning to sell my satio for a bb bold. satio isn’t worth the price.

Alan, if I load the new firmware will my hacked apps no longer work?

    Thanks, Rique

i have UK Vodafone branded Satio, and I have same problem. I can’t upgrade firmware because SEUS said, that I have latest fw. what I should do?

  • Paul says:

    Hi Rique,
Only if update over SEUS and select the option to keep user settings. I cannot be Held responsible if it does not keep the hack.
Visit the Forum for instructions, link at the top of this page.

    Hi pishta,
Vodafone UK are always one of the last Carriers to release the Firmware. I was on Vodafone UK, I debranded using DaVinci,(google it), once debranded you will find that the Satio is more stable and a lot faster.

    Hope that helps.

    Paul

  • Alan says:

Rique, Be very careful…. search this forum for instructions on upgrading using SEUS and apparently it saves all your hacks…. I didn’t know that at the time.

  • pishta says:

    Hi Paul,
I google for davinciteam, but my friend said, that he have problem with sending money for debranding. You debrand it successfully?

  • Paul says:

    Hi pistha,
I used Da Vinci to debrand my Satio, I did not have any problems, I even debranded it in the wrong Language and they re instated my money and talked me through it.
    Hope that helps.

  • pishta says:

And what about seus ubdate, you can now ubdate firmware trought seus?

  • Paul says:

    Hi,

In an early post you said that SEUS said you had the newest Firmware. What I was saying is that if you wanted the Update quicker, you would need to debrand.

You certainly can update through SEUS, but only when Vodafone release it to a branded Vodafone Satio.

    Paul

  • Sher says:

Just a general one. Does de-branding effect the warranty of the phone.

    Cheers

  • Alan says:

Everyone you don’t need to pay davinci to debrand….. there is an excellent online guide and everything you need here….. http://forums.se-nse.net/topic/47332-sony-ericsson-satio-debranding/

does anyone know if there is a way (or an update in the future) that will enable me to change the homescreen shortcuts, i would really like to place contacts there instead of the webpage shortcuts icon.

  • Alan says:

You are welcome… I cannot really take credit for it, I just found it somewhere and it worked for me… now if only someone could hack the new firmware so I could get my Ovi Maps back…. Sigh….
